Family photo of Heinrich Neufeld (1893) and wife Maria nee Rempel (1893-1970), daughter of Wilhelm Rempel (R-18). Heinrich is seated on a chair outside beside a tree, Maria is standing beside him. Their 3 sons are Henry, William, Peter (Peter is probably they youngest) Heinrich is wearing a dark suit, white tie and has a mustache. Maria is wearing a black dress with some lace on the bodice. The older boys are wearing tunics with a belt and the baby a dress with a white collar. The family lived in Gruenfeld, Russia, then Glenbush, SK. Hans Schroeder and his wife Anna (nee Wiens) are sitting on a bench on the left and 2 young women, their daughters Lenchen (Helena) and Tinchen (Katharina) are sitting on a bench on the left. Behind them are windows of the house with shutters. A black dog is sitting beside Hans Schroeder, and a pet dog, white with black ears is sitting on its haunches beside the girls.

Flail and threshing stone

This is a photo of two tools used in threshing. On the left is a flail, which is the most ancient threshing machine. On the right is a threshing stone which when pulled by two horses turned on a metal rod. The ribs of the threshing stone beat out the grains spread out on the ground. This was a great improvement on the flail.

Katharina Janzen's funeral

This is a photo of the Franz and Katharina Janzen (nee Katharina Boldt) extended family in 1928 around the coffin of Katharina, who gave birth to 12 children. It was common practice to have a family picture taken at the funeral with the open casket of the departed loved one. The funeral banner announces: Wiedersehn! (We will see you again!). Katharina and Franz with their seven younger children were the ones Jacob Funk went looking for and found in 1921.
