Indigenous men dancing in Bolivia

Two photos both used in the CM 6-35-4 in the 2nd article on "Christianity in South America." One photo shows Indigenous men dancing in traditional dress, and the caption reads: Pachamama is the old god in Bolivia worshipped through songs and dances. Bolivia is a land of opportunity for missions. In the second photo an Indigenous woman in her traditional dress is shown from the back walking along a street with buildings on either side, entering the captial city of La Paz. Indigenous girl in Bolivia

Four photos of similar size of Indigenous people in Bolivia. One was used in the CM 6-34-4 with the first in a series of articles on "Christianity in South America." It shows a "cholita" ("civilized Indian girl") in Bolivia. Information on the back of the other photos is as follows. #1 states: "Most of the Indians in Bolivia still keep their primitive ways" and shows men and a few women in native dress. #2 states: Indians keep their old pagan dances in Bolivia. There is a wide field to preach the Gospel" and shows natives dancing. #3 states "Teaching God's Word in Bolivia by means of flannelgraph figures." and shows missionary women doing that with a women and children watching and listening. Epp's articles about the work of the Krimmer Mennonite Brethren missionaries in Peru, where her sister Matty, wife of Slyvester Dirks lived and worked with her husband at the El Encuentro mission station. This article series begins in 2010-14.401.

Three negs., not used in the CM, taken at the Krimmer Mennonite Brethren mission station El Encuentro. Some information is on the enclosed note. One neg. is described as: "Farewell 'banquet' under the mango tree. The Indians preferred sitting in a huddle flat on the ground while they ate." The other 2 negs. show houses at Tourna-Vista, one built by R. G. LeTourneau for jungle living, the other a Peruvian workman's home - well above average in construction. Dr. Rakko, the doctor for the Neuland Colony

Dr. Rakko, the doctor for the Neuland Colony stands beside the ambulance which is parked beside his office building (see 2001-14.36). Two nurses stand on the other side of the vehicle as well as 2 patients: a woman with her arm in a cast and an Indigenous man in hosptial gown holding a child.The vehicle has been identified as a 1961 Mercedes Benz that was manufactured into an ambulance by the Binz Corporation in Lorch, Germany.
