Conference delegates at Edenburg, Manitoba

Delegates attending what was then known as the Conference of Mennonites in Middle Canada (later known as General Conference of Mennonites in Canada) annual conference. It was the its 7th annual session and occurred in Edenburg, Manitoba. The men on the left all do not have hats on while those on the right do. Visible in the photo are: second row from front, 4th from left is Peter Regehr, 6th from left is Heinrich H. Ewert. Behind him to the right is his brother Benjamin Ewert, and behind Heinrich Ewert to the left is David Toews.

This fonds consists of minutes, correspondence, and financial and legal documents. The records record the issued discussed, decisions made about the distribution of funds raised, report from programs or projects that their funds supported. The records record the financial transactions required for standard accounting and for functioning as a registered charity. The correspondence documents the breadth of the contacts that this women's group maintained including such organizations as Mennonite Central Committee, Canadian Association for the Mentally Retarded, Faith and Life Communications and General Conference Mennonite Church Women in Mission. The photographs include some from the mission fields that were recipients of funds from their organization.

Herman Rempel fonds

This fonds consists of a transcription of Rempel's war diary, autobiography, research on the community of Edenburg, published and unpublished Low German stories and poems including a partial translation of John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress. The material captures Low German stories, prose, and proverbs and provides context for Rempel's life experience.

Mr. and Mrs. Rempel are sitting on chairs outside in front of a tree or bush at their home in Edenburg, mile north, 2½ east of Gretna on the Post Rd. Peter is wearing a dark suit and shirt and a hat. Olga is wearing a dark dress, with buttons down the front and a lacy cap (Haube) tied under her chin.
Peter S. Rempel was born 6 Dec 1855 and died June 1927 at the age of 73 . Olga (nee Wall) was born 9 Feb 1859, died July 1937 at the age of 76. They were married 24. Nov 1878.

This is a photo of Rev. Heinrich Wiebe's gravestone in its original location near the village of Edenburg, Manitoba. It was found, repaired and moved to Cairn Corner, near the village of Neuanlage, one mile north of Gretna on highway 30.
