News clipping picturing the Schmitt Mennonite Church north of Edgeley, Ontario near Woodbridge. The meetinghouse was erected in 1824.
Caption reads: "This church one quarter of a mile north of Edgeley was built by the old Mennonites about 1800 who came north after the War of Independence from Pennsylvania. It was built of pine logs, blacksmith-made nails, hand planed woodwork, and no part inside or out was every touched by paint except the door. In 1849, it was boarded on the outside. The picture was taken in 1900 by Jerry Smith of Richmond Hill. The church stands on the farm formerly owned by his grandfather. We are indebted to Miss Hazel Smith, of Edgeley for the picture."
