Departure of emigrants from Stulnevo (Klippenfeld)

This photo is of the departure of a group of emigrants at the Stulnevo station (formerly Klippenfeld), north of Waldheim, Molotschna, South Russia, ca. 1925. A large group of people is facing away from the camera toward the freight train. The train passengers are very indistinct but can be seen standing in the open doors looking toward the crowd, apparently saying farewell.

This photo shows a crowd gathered at the Lichtenau train station upon the departure of many for Canada. A woman sits on a chair with her back to the camera. Young men stand near the open door. Ladder wagons can be seen in the background on the left.

This photo is of Mennonite boarding the train at Lichtenau, Molotschna in July 1924 to immigrate to Canada. People are standing in the box car and around the door on the ground posing for a photo. In the box car far right is Benjamin B. Janz (BB Janz). This was the 2nd train departing in early July 1924.

Familes traveling by freight train cars out of Russia

This is a copy of a photo showing families boarding a freight train car in preparation to leave Russia in the 1920s. About four families lived in one of these small freight cars for about two weeks en route to Riga, providing their own food along the way. Photograph in Gerhard Lohrenz, HERITAGE REMEMBERED: A Pictorial Survey of Mennonites in Prussia and Russia, revised and enlarged (Canadian Mennonite Bible College, 1977), 264.
