A funeral in the Forestry Camp near Yalta

This photograph shows a large group of men posed in front of some bare trees, alongside a light colored coffin on a stand, all without their caps on. A German note in the front reads: "? Plett, died in the South Coast Forestry Camp. The son of a Molotschna bishop. 1916. In the Crimean mountains outside of Yalta. The address of P.J. Sawatzky is noted on the reverse, R.R. #2, Ruthven, Ont. This photo also appears on page 146 of the book by Lawrence Klippenstein and Jacob Dick, Mennonite Alternative Service in Russia.

Funeral of Maria Albrecht of Ladekopp

This photo shows Maria Albrecht (1887-1910) is a casket surround by family members. These include (l-r): David (19), Jacob (9), Liesa (13), Helene (7), Malvina (21), Margarete (Walde) Albrecht, mother of the deceased, and another young lady, possibly a cousin of the deceased. It was said that "Maria died of a broken hear so they dressed her in the wedding dress. She was 23." This item is a reproduction of an original photograph.

This photo shows a 2-horse drawn carriage with the open casket bearing Maria Albrecht (1887-1910) to the cemetery for burial. Two men are holding the horses, 7 men are standing beside the carriage, and Margarete (Walde) Albrecht, mother of the deceased is standing in the background at the far left of the photo. (This item is a reproduction of Photo 660:09.)

Eighteen adults and two children, dressed formally, standing around coffin. Seven out of ten women have traditional head coverings. Exposure problem: 2/3 of photo has regular exposure, but 1/3 is lighter.

Johann Goosen is lying in a coffen outside.The quality of the photo is very poor.. Someone is sitting beside the coffin on a chair, Mrs. Goosen? Johann was born 31 Jan 1858 in Ladekopp, and died 10 Feb 1925, in Karussan, Krim. His wife was Anna Reimer who died in Paraguay. (G-28)
