Carl Kauffman from Haven, Kansas supervising a special feeding program

Two photos (2nd one measures 17.5x12.5) show Carl Kauffman from Haven, Kansas supervising a special feeding program for the hungry patients who came to the Nha Trang Hospital where he served with MCC as as all-around handyman an medical assistant at the Nhatrang Evangelical Clinic. The refugees, men, women and children, stand around him waiting their turn to receive food. Carl died on Sept. 12, 1967, on his way to the US after a 3 year term with MCC in Hong Kong and Vietnam. See CM 15-38-1 for a photo of him at work in 1966, taken by Frank H. Epp.

Pat Hostetter is helping refugee men with handicrafts

Used in CM15-7-1 when the US vice-president thanked Mennonite Central Committee for their work in Vietnam. Pat Hostetter of Harrisonburg, Virginia worked for MCC at several refugee camps in Quang Ngai in Vietnam. She taught English, organized recreation, set up garden plots and assisted with the youth program of the Protestant church in Quang Ngai. In this photo she is helping refugee men with handicrafts.

Negatives, 2. Three photos showing the men working in the shop at the Menno Home doing woodworking. 2 photos show a similar group of men from different angles, the 3rd, is a close up of 2 shown at right in the top neg. The young man with his head down in one of the photos, may be Dwight Bond, the Voluntary Service worker & shop asst. See CM 16-49-6.

Caption:"Mrs. Alvin Friesen (center) Taiwanese wife of medical missionary Dr. Alvin Friesen of Meadow Lake, Sask. is welcomed to Canada by former MCC worker, Margaret Peters, R.N. of Gretna and Sue Martens, R.N. missionary to Taiwan on furlough." At the CMC annual meeting in Altona, Man.

The Binh Loi orphanage near Ho Chi Minh City

The Binh Loi orphanage near Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). Ann Falk, a nurse from Manitoba working for Mennonite Central Committee (in her nurse's uniform) presents a layette to a Vietnamese mother for her baby. Not found in CM. Perhaps Ann donated the photo since she refers to herself in the note on the back.
