Enlarged for use in the CM 14-18-7. MCC Director from Yarrow, B.C. is with Laurence Chang and several assistants in the Hong Kong Soup Kitchen from which last year 700,000 meals were prepared for school children. The meat being used included that shipped several years ago from the west coast by the Canadian Mennonite Relief and Immigration Council.

Mennonite Central Committee food distribution in Saigon in 1965. A van is loaded with baquets (long narrow loaves of bread) and a few sacks of flour. Several Vietnamese,soldiers and other men are with the van, perhaps getting ready for the distribution. Not used in the CM. See related photo in CM 15-2-3.

A food station at the Red Cross refugee home

No. 21 in a 2nd set of numbered photos from a tour of Berlin following the 6th Mennonite World Conference at Karlsruhe, Germany in 1957. Used in the CM 5-37-7. A food station at the Red Cross refugee home, Heim Dunant, where daily meals are prepared and dispatched for 5,000 refugees. Several men and a woman survey the containers at the back of the building. The photo is torn and the top part of it is adhered to the photo in 2010-14.484. No. 22 on C. J. Rempel's list is missing.

Two Church World Service (New York city) photos, numbered on the back, 450 and 339. The caption for #450 reads: "Women and children stand in line for their share of powdered milk and clothing at a distribution sponsored by the Protection of Children." This photo was used in the CM 6-50-7 to remind Mennonite readers to remember the poor at Christmas time. The caption for #339 reads: "Milk bar Each nursing mother, pregnant woman and child receives eight ounces daily. They usually take it home and use it at will.

A group of young children stand at the entrance to a building ("Eingang" is written above the door) with two women. The one at left may be an MCC worker, the same woman as in 2001-14.163. The woman at right may be a local helper. Landscape seen at right is bleak, so taken in late 1940s or early 1950s. Part of MCC's Child Feeding Program or Christmas bundle distribution as in following photos. At Wentdorf?

A young child, perhaps 1 year old, with soother in his mouth, is at a table with 2 Gerber baby food boxes in front of him. A young girl, perhaps 2 or 3 years old (curly hair) looks on. Taken (in the late 1940s or early 1950s?) in regard to MCC's Child Feeding Projects in Europe?

Group of 25 women peeling potatoes?

Group of 25 women peeling potatoes. Possibly preparing them for Mennonite Central Committee canned food? Some of them are seated on overturned bushel baskets. A conveyor belt is visible through the window of the building in front of which the group is working indicating the place may be one of the canneries in St. Catharines, Ont. Likely taken in late 40s or early 50s. Was among Frank Epp's refugee photos.

3 photos show the process of unloading food sacks with the MCC logo on them. All have # 1820 on back. # 1-3 were assigned. In #1 boxes are in the hold & a man is readying them to be lifted out. In 2 & 3 the sacks are being moved from the ship to a waiting truck. Likely taken in Kiel the same as 2001-14.152.

4 photos show the process of unloading boxes of food for relief. All 4 have # 1737 on back. # 1-4 were assigned. In #1 boxes are in the hold & a man is attaching a rope. In next 3, boxes are being moved from the ship. In # 2 & 3 a man (an MCC or other relief organization official?) holds a list while watching the process. The boxes are from Columbus, Ohio (see #4). Likely in Kiel harbour where 2001-14.152 was taken.

View taken from the stairs, looking down on the room where the child feeding program was carried out at Neustadt by Charlotte Regier. The children are seated at tables, either waiting for their food or just finished it. A number of adults are also in the photo. Donated by Charlotte Regier? Her MCC term was 1947-1948.

Note on back: "Kitchen personnel at Ludwigshafen opening the cans." Besides the women doing this job, a group of women are peeling potatoes at right. The work takes place outside.
