In 1962, the Mennonite World Conference returned to North America, to Kitchener, Ontario. The theme was "The Lordship of Christ." Participation was much larger than at previous conferences, with 12,500 persons registered.

In ts final session at the 7th Mennonite World Conference (WMC), delegates paid tribute to Harold S. Bender as its long-time leader. He was unable to attend all of the 1962 conference and died soon after.
