This photo is of a baptism outdoors performed by Rev. Jacob Thiessen, in Herbert, Saskatchewan with a large group of onlookers on the river bank. Anna Thiessen, daughter of Jacob W. Thiessen, standing far right. A log fastened to a pole in the river bed leads baptism candidates into the river where Rev. Thiessen will baptize them by immersion.

This is a photo of Rev. Jacob J. Doerksen (left) baptizing people from the North Abbotsford Mennonite Brethren Church in a lake (?) near Abbotsford. Today the church is called Clearbrook Mennonite Brethren Church. See page 192 in Daughters in the House of Jacob.
Identification provided by Mary Ann Quiring, "In the water with J.J. Doerksen is Rubina Unruh, next right Elsie Isaak, unknown and then Susie Ens.

Remembering a first baptism

This photo is of (l-r) Frank Brown, Herb Van Bergen, William Schroeder, and Arnie Neufeld standing at Dead Horse Creek, the site of the first MB baptism in Canada (30 May 1886). The photo was taken to mark 100 years since this first baptism.
