Personal papers of a conscientious objector during World War I and Mennonite pastor in Ohio. The bulk of the material consists of sermons organized by topic..  Also included are photographs from Camp Sherman, where Frey was stationed during the First World War, and a journal recording the names of other conscientious objectors at Camp Sherman and their visitors.  A small amount of correspondence from the World War I and World War II eras may also be found in these papers.

The scribbler begins with brief notes, genealogy, and addresses in German and Russian followed by hymn texts and finally the travel diary, which is an account of the emigration trip to Canada 1924-1925, entitled "Unsere Reise Nach America".

This small set of personal papers consists primarily of sermons sermon notes.  Other materials include photographs of Gingerich and his wife, Lena Schlatter Gingerich, reports and ephemera pertaining to his service to the Mennonite Church, an account of the treatment of Mennonites in Iowa during World War I, family correspondence (in German), and audiocassettes of the service commemorating the 60th anniversary of his ordination.

Sermon entitled: "Meinem Austritt Predigt" (My Departure sermon)

The bulk of the collection consists of sermons Alvin preached at the various congregations he served. While some are typed and some handwritten, almost all are verbatim manuscripts, not outlines or notes. Almost all clearly identify when and where the sermon was preached. He also saved some of his class notes from Hartford and Harvard, but very little from Bluffton and nothing from Messiah.

The collection contains no family or personal materials other than a couple folders of correspondence, mostly related to the Vietnam War. Nothing was found related to his experience growing up Old Order Amish or the family’s transition to Beachy Amish; unless he mentions this during oral history interviews in box 8.

These papers primarily document the life and work of Isaiah W. Royer, but includes some material pertinent to his wife, Christina Neuhauser Rohrer. The papers are divided into three series:

(2) Sermon Notes and Orrville Mennonite Church
(3) Sunday School and Commission for Christian Education

This file contains eight sermons based on the scripture passages: Luke 2:1-14, Luke 14:16-24, Ephesians 5:9, Philippians 4-13, Luke 18:1-8, Matthew 18:11, I Corinthians 9:24, and Mark 16.
