Three negs., not used in the CM, taken at the Krimmer Mennonite Brethren mission station El Encuentro. Some information is on the enclosed note. One neg. is described as: "Farewell 'banquet' under the mango tree. The Indians preferred sitting in a huddle flat on the ground while they ate." The other 2 negs. show houses at Tourna-Vista, one built by R. G. LeTourneau for jungle living, the other a Peruvian workman's home - well above average in construction. Epp's articles about the work of the Krimmer Mennonite Brethren missionaries in Peru, where her sister Matty, wife of Slyvester Dirks lived and worked with her husband at the El Encuentro mission station. Negatives only, 2 similar ones. One used in CM 4-32-1. Rev. J. J. Thiessen, moderator of Canadian district, welcomes Samuel Stephen, principal of a Mennonite High school in India & John S. Timber, chairman of the Montana Indian Mennonite Churches, to the 34th meeting of the GCMC in Wpg. In photo used Thiessen shakes hands with Stephen.

Two copies of photo. Caption on back of smaller one (13x9), Helen Willms wrote "A group of school children at the Bloodvein Indian Reserve which is almost entirely Catholic, yet a number of families are requesting a Protestant schoolteacher." Shipibo school girls with embroidered designs

Used in the CM 4-37-4. Shipibo school girls with embroidered designs on their costume. One girl stands to show her skirt. They were artistic people and lived in the Shipibo Village near Caco, Peru where the South America Mission to Indians had a station. The first in a series of photos related to Margaret A. Epp's travel to Peru to meet her sister, a Krimmer Mennonite Brethren missionary. Mrs. Mary Baker was taking photographs and was likely the photographer. In the second photo a mother sits with 3 children. This tribe had no walls in their houses, only floors. This series continues to 2010-14.407.

Larry Klippenstein docking his boat

Larry Klippenstein, Mennonite Pioneer Mission worker, is docking his boat. He and his wife held meetings at Matheson Island, Loon Straits, Pine Dock and the Bloodvein First Nation. Dated Oct. 1956. See also CM 4-35-6. Used in CM 5-25-4 with article.

Caption in CM: "This is not one house but several. By living in a united way Indians can keep their traditions through the centuries. They use mud and straw to build their houses. Their life in the highlands is difficult." Used in CM 6-41-4. Written on back of photograph: "Indians use mud and straw to build their houses. Life is very hard for the people living on the mountains and highland in Bolivia."
