Herman Enns serving in the Mennonite Alternative Service in Russi

This is a portrait of Herman Enns seated on a tree stump in a studio with his right foot resting on a rock. His Alternative Service uniform includes a tall fur cap. There is a wide, white band on his upper left arm. The cloth backdrop scene of clouds and water on the right has tall trees and a building on the left with rocks in the foreground. This photograph also appears in Mennonite Alternative Service in Russia by Lawrence Klippenstein and Jacob Dick on page 116.

This photograph shows Nikolai Driedger and Herman Enns seated on either side of a small white table, in front of a scenic canvas backdrop. Both are dressed in the Alternative Service uniform with their caps removed. Herman Enns is holding on to a piece of paper or document in his left hand. There is a poem on the reverse in German written July 16, 1915: "Calm your souls with patience, Strangers of the Earth, Find contentment in God's grace, Soon things will get better. A verse as a reminder and comfort for us all. Your Nicolai" The name Kathe Warkentin is also written on the reverse.
