Raymond Mark Yoder Papers

This small set of personal papers from a pastor affiliated with the (old) Mennonite Church consists primarily of sermons, some of which were delivered at the Mennonite Home Mission in Chicago, Ill., where Yoder served after his ordination in 1939. Other sermons were written for congregational minsitry at the two churches he served: Congerville Mennonite Church (Congerville, Ill.) and Pleasant Oaks Mennonite Church (Middlebury, Ind.) The papers also include information about the history of the Pleasant Oaks congregation in the early 1960s, when it sold its church building. This collection also includes a number of family photographs and a handful of photographs from the Mennonite Home Mission, as well as two audiotapes of Yoder delivering sermons. Photographs mostly date from 1870 through 1930.

25 cassette tapes containing interviews with 19 Mennonites who served in the military from World War II to the Vietnam War:  Brian Arbuckle, Dan Bontrager, James Christophel, Chris Culp, Chuck Hoover, Alvin Hostetler, Stan Liechty, Glenn Mast, Kenneth Miller, Paul Pletcher, Don Reber, Allen Schrock, Levi Slabaugh, Wayne Stopher, Larry Vardaman, Floyd J. Yoder, Gordon Yoder, Herb L. Yoder, and Rick Yoder.  Floyd L. Rheinheimer interviewed all of the subjects.  Brief abstracts of the interviews are available, but no transcriptions have been made.  Also included in this collection is a set of articles and pamphlets from the Mennonoite press regarding military service.

Records of the African American constituency group of the (old) Mennonite Church. Emerging from the Minority Ministries Council, the African American Mennonite Association began its orginizational life as the Black Council or Black Caucus.  In the early 1980s the name was changed to the African American Mennonite Association (AAMA).  The AAMA strove to support black and racially integrated congregations in the (old) Mennonite Church through annual assemblies and programming, leadership training, educational opportunites, and congregational economic development.

Mennonite Board of Missions Health and Welfare Committee Frontier Boys Village (Divide, Co.) Records

Administrative records of a camp facility established by the Rocky Mountain Mennonite Camp Association and later administered by the Mennonite Board of Missions. Frontier Boys Village provided a long-term rehabilitation program for adolescent boys completing the requirements of Colorado's juvenile justice system. Records include board meeting minutes, correspondence, financial and development records, policy documents, publicity materials, scrapbooks, and photographs.

Reflections of Elderly Mennonites Tape Collection

24 cassette tapes containing interviews with 24 elderly Mennonites, most of whom lived in northern Indiana or were prominent in the broader Mennonite community: Abram Hallman, Ruth (Mast) Roth, Irene Witmer, Noah Good, Martha (Eby) Yake, Tilman Smith, Paul Mininger, Mary (Erb) Mininger, Ollie (Shank) Grabill, A.J. Metzler, Lester Hostetler, John Mosemann, Ruth (Histand) Mosemann, Sanford Eash, Orpha (Kauffman) Eash, Elizabeth (Horsch) Bender, Minnie (Swartzendruber) Graber, J.C. Wenger, Howard Yoder, Laura (Weaver) Troyer, Nora (Miller) Kauffman, Nelson Litwiller, Milo Kauffman, and Irene (Lehman) Weaver. Dwight E. Roth, a professor of sociology at Hesston College, interviewed all of the subjects. Transcripts of the interviews are not available. Roth analyzed and reflected upon these interviews in his self-published book, Reflections of Elderly Mennonites [Hesston, Kan.] : [Roth], 1982. Also contains two floppy disks with chapter drafts from this book.

This collection documents the activities of members of the Civilian Public Service (CPS) Camp #58 in Farnhurst, Delaware from 1942 through 1946. Camp reunion files give insight into how the CPS experience affected the lives of those who served. Included are D. Paul Miller's personal scrapbook during his time of service, materials related to the camp's softball team (the Red Comb Arrows), The Crusaders Quartet, and later circle letters and reunion documents.
