Administrative history

Frontier Boys Village was established in 1960 as a ministry of the Rocky Mountain Mennonite Camp to provide a rehabilitation program for adolescent boys classified as delinquent by Colorado's juvenile justice system. In 1965, the Mennonite Board of Missions Health and Welfare Committee assumed ownership and operated the camp until it closed in 1977. The camp operated from two different locations near Rocky Mountain Mennonite Camp in Divide, Colorado, before purchasing a new property near Larkspur, Colorado, in 1969. Over its 17 years of existence, the camp had almost 400 employees, many of whom served through MBM's voluntary service program. For a detailed administrative history, see History of Frontier Boys Village, by Harlan D. Unrau, in Box 1, Folder 1 of the collection.
