This photo is of Urbane Peachey, left, and tour member Ed Stoltzfus, beside him, who are conversing with brothers at the newly renovated facilities of the Mennonite congregation at Alma-Ata in the Soviet Kazakh Republic. Urbane Peachey was the co-director of a tour to this region.

A family resting in a temporary home

This photo is of a family resting in a large concrete culvert pipe. inside this temporary home in East Pakistan [later known as Bangladesh] is a mother and two children. They are resting on a large straw mat. A number of metal bowls are in the entrance to this pipe. Inside the pipe on the left side is also a basket. In the background beyond the pipe are some people who appear to be standing in a line. A building can be seen behind the people.

This photo is of Shanti Bhosee. The description on the back says, " Miss Shanti Bhosee of Calcutta, India, is seen here at her typewriter at the Mennonite Central Committee headquarters in Akron, Pa. Since the age of 17, she has always worn the traditional sari, a switch which in India signifies stepping into womanhood."

There is a row of trees in the background. The description on the backs says, "The tractor project of the Mennonite Relief Committee reclaims land for agricultural purposes."
