Administrative history
The MCC BC Women’s Auxiliary was officially formed in 1970. It should be noted that in later years it became known as the MCC BC Auxiliary to include men who were also serving in these activities. This organization had a wide ranging membership with representatives from the General Conference Mennonite Churches, the Mennonite Brethren Conference, and the Fellowship of Evangelical Bible Churches and also representatives from the MCC BC stores, the Relief Sale Committee along with some others. Mary Thiessen was the first president of the Women’s Auxiliary but others like Lena Unger and Katie Regehr had already been involved with helping at the relief sales. Later Anne Sawatzky of Vancouver has also been an Auxiliary chairperson.
The purposes of this active organization included the following: to coordinate volunteers for the Thrift Stores, Self Help Crafts, Furniture Stores and Relief Sales; to promote, prepare and disburse material aid items; and to assemble and stitch quilts. They have also been involved in fund raising for MCC and many other helpful activities.
