Cover, Kennel-Jantzi book (Waterloo)
Inside the cover of this 1706 edition of the Psalms there appears in both French and German inscription identifying the owners as Christian and Magdalena (Jantzi) Kennel, early settlers of Wellesley, in western Waterloo County. The leather cover is embellished by a punched tin decorative edging and clasp, faintly suggestive of borders in some Mennonite and Schwenkfelder Fraktur illuminations in Pennsylvania.
