Singer foot treadle sewing machine with various quilts of different patterns surrounding it on display.
Corresponding section of the Brubacher House script reads: "The piecing was done by hand until approximately 1834 or 1840 when the hand operated sewing machine made its appearance, later the foot treadle model, such as this one, was used."

This is a photo of men, women and children sitting around quilt-frames, tying quilts. These members of Grace Mennonite Church in Phoenix, AZ brought 51 quilts to the MCC west Coast office in Reedley, CA. Fifteen of the quilts were tied by the groups in the photo.
