Biographical history

The Pacific Northwest Mennonite Historical Society (PNMHS), was originally named the Oregon Mennonite Historical and Genealogical Society (OMHGS) until the name was changed in 2009. The Society was established in 1988 by Hope Lind, a historian of Pacific Northwest Mennonite Conference. She wanted to consolidate Mennonite family history by creating a resource for the local community. Since then, the Society has expanded from a few shelves of documents to a library and archival center in Hubbard, OR and works as a resource with local schools and organizations.
The Amish Mennonite community in Oregon came from the Midwest and settled in the 1880s, establishing the Zion Mennonite Church in 1893. They continue to be involved in their community, considering how they can best interact as a resource with those around them.
