Ordination of Tsuneharu Oshima

Two photos, dated Jan. 24, 1959, were used in the CM 7-9-4 with an article. The top photo, taken by Raymond Reimer, shows the laying on of hands ordination service by all elders present. L-r: Paul W. Boschman, Robert Ramseyer, Tsuneharu Oshima (being ordained as pastor and elder), Peter Voran (who performed the ordination), Peter Derksen and Verney Unruh. In the bottom photo, taken by Paul W. Boschman, Peter Voran hands a new Bible to new church worker, Takashi Yamada. See related photos in 2010-14.389.

Two photos dated Jan. 24, 1959, not used in the CM, show participants at the fourth annual Japanese Fellowship Conference (see article in CM 7-9-4). In one photo, 3 men are engaged in food and fellowship, l-r: Peter Voran, Tsuneharu Oshima (see back of photo for correct spelling of his 1st name), and Takashi Yamada. In the 2nd photo men and women (see article for professions of the participants) have an informal discussion between sessions of the conference. One man is speaking, likely Tsuneharu Oshima of Fukuoka, who was the speaker at the conference. See related photos in 2010-14.388.

The first Christian wedding in Nichinan, Japan

Used in the CM 7-7-6. The first Christian wedding in Nichinan, Japan. The groom, Mr. Yamada, pastor of the Aburatsu Church, and the bride (dressed in white), Miss Oiwane, head teacher of the Mennonite mission kindergarten, were married on Nov. 30, 1958 in the Aburatsu Church. About 100 guests attended and curious onlookers looked through the windows of the church. The photo was submitted by the GCMC missionary, Mrs. Peter Derksen (Mary).
