Biographical history

Menno Klassen (1917-2000) was born in Laird, Saskatchewan. From 1922 till young adulthood he lived in Neuanlage, near Altona, Manitoba. He completed a four-year agriculture degree at the University of Manitoba. For a while he worked for the Rhineland Agricultural Society based in Altona, promoting 4-H, animal health, and special crop production programs. He also shared in the leadership of the Altona Youth Forum. Later he worked in Paraguay with the resettlement of Mennonites refugees from Europe following World War II. Upon returning to Winnipeg in 1950 he worked in the sugar beet industry. He remained an advocate for various peace and justice causes and volunteered in many church committees such as Moose Lake Camp, long after his retirement in 1982. He was married to Agatha Enns (1918- ) and together they had five children.
