Biographical history

Born September 8, 1802, in Klein Mausdorf, West Prussia. Parents were Cornelius Andreas and Agnetha Giesbrecht. He married Helene Fast about 1837, and Anna Fast about 1842. Children who survived to adulthood were: Helena (1840-1912; married Peter Penner), Johannes (1843-1917; married Justine Goossen), and Wilhelm (1847-1923; married Catharine Claassen). He was elected elder of the Elbing-Ellerwald church in 1846. He resigned as elder in 1869 in the midst of the controversy over military conscription. He migrated to the United States with other family members in 1876 and died five months after arrival in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, January 11, 1877. He is buried in Beatrice, Nebraska.

The collection includes Elbing-Ellerwald church record books kept by Andreas as elder, and a large collection of sermons. The authorship of most of the sermons is not indicated, but it seems likely that most of them were written by Andreas except where otherwise indicated.
