Scope and content

This is a photo of Jakob Penner. Typical of many of his generation, he served as male nurse in the Russo-Japanese war; then he had to serve in the same capacity for several years during the First World War; then he served in the White Army. He had to flee and came to France. In 1924 he came to Canada where he died in 1934. Penner never married-life simply did not leave him time and energy for family obligations. [HR 193]
