Teachers and students pose below and on a climbing apparatus in Halbstadt. On back of photograph: "High School (Fortbildingschule) in Halbstadt. Grandfather David Friesen on ladder to right - third from bottom, about 1898." The photograph was probably taken at the teacher training school in Halbstadt, the Halbstadt Zentralschule. The equipment may have been used for exercise or physical training.
This photograph is of the Zentralschule in Halbstadt, a school of higher learning. It is a building with many windows and four pillars in front of the building. A fence lines the roadway in front of the building. It has numerous pillars along the fence.
Anna (Neufeld) Tiessen's brother, Peter Neufeld, is likely among this group of students. The building strongly resembles the Halbstadt Zentralschule built in 1895.

This is a photo of the first building of the Halbstadt Central School, built 1835. After a number of years this building was replaced by another one. [HR 182]
