No. 21 in a 2nd set of numbered photos from a tour of Berlin following the 6th Mennonite World Conference at Karlsruhe, Germany in 1957. Used in the CM 5-37-7. A food station at the Red Cross refugee home, Heim Dunant, where daily meals are prepared and dispatched for 5,000 refugees. Several men and a woman survey the containers at the back of the building. The photo is torn and the top part of it is adhered to the photo in 2010-14.484. No. 22 on C. J. Rempel's list is missing.
A group of young children stand at the entrance to a building ("Eingang" is written above the door) with two women. The one at left may be an MCC worker, the same woman as in 2001-14.163. The woman at right may be a local helper. Landscape seen at right is bleak, so taken in late 1940s or early 1950s. Note on back of photo: "A relief distribution of Christenpflicht in the city of Heilbronn. MCC supplies are used." Three women in uniforms (2 from the Red Cross?) are shown with food, canned corn & some in bags, while people are lined up to receive it.
A tent canopy has been attached to the Children's Mobile Kitchen and people are gathered informally in groups in front of it. Two women (their backs to the camera) from the Red Cross to left of the canopy?

A young child, perhaps 1 year old, with soother in his mouth, is at a table with 2 Gerber baby food boxes in front of him. A young girl, perhaps 2 or 3 years old (curly hair) looks on. Taken (in the late 1940s or early 1950s?) in regard to MCC's Child Feeding Projects in Europe?
One of the MCC feeding stations in India? Abe Hoeppner stands at left behind a group of children. The focus of the photo is a container where some food is being mixed by an Indian man. Other PAX men? look on as well.

Neg only. Used in CM 4-32-4. Arab refugee women and their daughters bake sage bread. They live in tents where crowded conditions cause bad health and disease. MCC medical workers seek to curb disease and provide a better diet for these people.
Used in CM 3-5-3. 2 Pax men, Carl Smeltzer of Elkhart & Doyle Basinger of Ohio, hold boxes of food supplies from the US for homeless people housed the Germersheim jail due to floods on the Rhine River.
