Andrew Stemen Account Book

This account book documents debts to and work performed by Andrew Stemen, a Mennonite farmer and cobbler in Ohio.  It also includes congregational accounts for building maintenance and the purchase of wine, Bibles, tubs, and other church supplies.

Ezra Stauffer Papers

Stauffer's notes consist primarily of sermon outlines, Bible school lecture outlines, and Bible studies.  A folder of notes on drawing, as well as the illustrations that decorate his sermon and teaching notes, indicate Stauffer's interest in and talent for drawing.

The history is a manuscript book that includes not only a history of the Alberta-Saskatchewan Mennonite Conference, but also biographical sketches of minsters and lay people in the conference and brief histories of the local congregations.  Stauffer incorporated original photographs and ink drawings into his manuscript, creating a modern illuminated manuscript.

This collection also contains Erza Stauffer's and Irene Lehman's marriage certificate.

J. H.(John Hunsberger) Oberholtzer Letter to Friends in Germany

A letter from J. H. Oberholtzer to unnamed German "beloved brethren and companions in the faith of Jesus" regarding his assessment of Mennonite church life in the United States.  The letter was written 16 months after the Franconia schism of 1847.

The original letter is in German script.  Transcriptions into modern German and an English translation accompany the original letter.

This small set of papers consists primarily of two diaries kept by Burkholder, a Virginia minister and later bishop of the (old) Mennonite Church.  The diaries contain brief daily enteries providing information about the weather and his activities for the day.  Other materials inclde sermon outlines, clippings, and miscellaneous materials.

Henry B. Reist Notebook

Henry B. Reist's notebook contains his account of a two-month long train trip from eastern Pennslyvania to the Midwestern and Southern United States. Reist travelled with his wife, John Nissley and his wife, and Henry S. Snavley and his wife. Of particular note are Reist's comments on the landscapes and wildlife he encounters, regional agricultural practices, and the friendliness of the Southerners he meets.

Researchers should note that the archives does not possess the original notebook, but rather a typed transcription.

Six letters in German script from members of the Brubacher family residing in Ontario and Pennsylvania.  Correspondents include Johannes and Susanna Brubacher, Jacob and Maria Brubacher, and Heinrich Brubacher.  ALl of the letters have either been transcribed or translated.  Among the letters are also several photocopied German hymns with translations into English.

A photocopy of the proceedings of a General Court Martial at Camp Dodge, Iowa in World War I.  The defendant, George S. Miller, was a Mennonite conscientious objector.  This is an incomplete copy that does not contain the judgment.  Testimony, however, is present.

This series contains the records of the meetings of the Executive Board of the Mennonite Church USA.  Materials include the reports distributed to board members as well as the meeting minutes.  Researchers should note that the series extends back several years prior to the legal creation of the Mennonite Church USA in 2002.  The earliest records in this series document the final years of the merger process undertaken by the General Conference Mennonite Church and the (old) Mennonite Church.

In the earliest years of this series, researchers will find executive committee meeting materials as well.
