Official records of Africa Inter-Mennonite Mission, a missionary organization with joint support from several Mennonite and Anabaptist-related denominations. Originally founded as the Congo Inland Mission in 1911, the organization changed its name to Africa Inter-Mennonite Mission in 1972 and expanded its ministry to include Lesotho, Botswana, South Africa, and Burkina Faso. These records are divided into the following series:

Documents pertaining to the process by which John Howard Yoder and his employer, then Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary (AMBS), navigated difficult personal and institutional relationships created by Yoder's sexual indiscretions and harrassment of women.  These materials were collected and created by then seminary president Marlin E. Miller.  Materials include documents pertaining to Yoder's ordination and church membership, contracts with AMBS, Yoder's papers on singleness, marriage, and sexuality and AMBS faculty members' responses, materials pertaining to Yoder's covenant group at AMBS, documents about his resignation, and correspondence with various parties during and after Yoder's period of employment at AMBS.

A small set of files pertaining to John Howard Yoder.  Materials include correspondence regarding Yoder's seminar at Eastern Mennonite University in January 1997 and former Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary (AMBS) president Nelson Kraybill's correspondence regarding John Howard Yoder in 1997 and 1998.

A small set of documents from the files of former Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary (AMBS) board member Evelyn Shellenberger.  Duplicate documents found in X-18-001 were removed from Shellenberger's files for the convenience of researchers.  Materials include correspondence from and about John Howard Yoder regarding his harassment of women and his continued presence at AMBS.

A small colleciton of assorted materials associated with the preliminary investigation of a denominational mutual aid entity. The collection largely consists of questionnaires to prominent men of the (old) Mennonite Church regarding the need for a program to provide aid in the event of property loss, illness and death. Other materials include the 1945 articles of incorporation of Mennonite Mutual Aid Inc., correspondence, reports, and miscellaneous materials.

This series consists primarily of questionnaires returned by Civilian Public Service volunteers and providing information about marital status and family life,  health after service, and their plans for work or education after service.  This series also includes correspondence regarding the availability of loans for volunteers (about $75,000 in loans was available) and correspondence about timber land open for settlement by volunteers.

These minutes and reports document the work of the governing body of an (old)  Mennonite Church entity that provided financial services and stewardship resources to North American Mennonites.  Some correspondence is included in the early reports and minutes.  This series includes records of the regular meetings as well as special meetings called for specific purposes.

Researchers should note that the more modern records in this series (circa 1970 and forward) consist of meeting dockets.

Records of an (old) Mennonite Church commission charged with fostering and supporting leadership in congregations.  Records consist primarily of correspondence and subject files.

Records of (old) Mennonite Church commission charged with supporting the peace witness in Mennonite congregations.  Records include correspondence, reports, event files, grant applications, reports, and other records dealing with conscription, alternative service, racial and gender discrimination, veterans' ministries, and capital punishment.

Planning and evaluation files for Mennonite Youth Conventions held biennially  in conjunction with the Mennonite Church's General Assemblies.  Records include a brief overview of the history of youth conventions (1960s - 2001) and fairly complete files for the St. Louis and Nashville Youth Conventions in 1999 and 2001, including program booklets, song books, CDs of worship music, and planning committee records.  Scattered documentation for conventions between 1991 and 1997 may also be found in these files.

Correspondence and subject files for the commission created to promote stewardship initiatives in Mennonite conferences and congregations.

The first two boxes contain materials related to the Commission on Congregational Stewardship, the Churchwide Stewardship Council, and "A Call to Faithful Stewardship," a denominational initiative adopted as part of Vision '95 at the 1985 Mennonite Church General Assembly in Ames, Iowa.

Boxes 3 to 5 contain correspondence related to visits with Mennonite conferences and congregations. Files are arranged alphabetically by congregation and divided by conference.

Boxes 5 (second half) and 6 contain administrative files created between 1992 and 2000, including minutes, reports, correspondence, congregational resources, and Mark Vincent's files related to The Giving Project.

Board minutes and dockets of the denominational body charged with coordinating stewardship, evangelism, education and literature, leadership, and women's congregational life.  These documents provide insight into the leadership and formation of priorities of the Mennonite Board of Congregational Ministries (MBCM) rather than the organization's day to day operations.  They also provide financial information regarding the MBCM and its constituent organizations.

Minutes, agendas, and supporting documents from Mennonite Board of Congregational Ministries (MBCM) staff meetings.  These minutes not only document the work of MBCM, but also the staff members' discernment of how best to fulfill MBCM's mission as a resource provider to congregations.

Also included in this series are the minutes of the Personnel Committee, as well as personnel policy manuals for MBCM.
