Hamm, Peter G., 1883-1965

P.G. Hamm - glass

This series of photos consists of a mix of outdoor and indoor shots of individuals. The outdoor shots show the street village land space of southern Manitoba, and what appears to be of an inventory of agricultural implements on the yard. A group of people in Sunday best with horse dawn carriages is also in this series. One photo appears to be not from near the home of photographer Hamm as the typography is not the usual flat landscape but depicts a hilly area where people are swimming.

Hamm, Peter G., 1883-1965

Linguistics

In this series the author researched the origins and development of the Low German (Plattdeutsch) language. He compared it to High German (modern German), Dutch, and Old High German. Rempel also traced its use in the Mennonite culture. The records consist of notes, manuscripts, and cards. Most of the information is in Dutch, Low German, and High German.

Diaries

This series consists of a collection of notebooks in which Jake and Trudie Unrau recorded their day to day activities. Some entries are short, containing only a sentence or two, while others are pages long. These diaries give a personal window into the lives of this missionary couple and the people with whom they worked. The diaries continue into their retirement years. A few entries are written in German.

Bergthaler Mennonite church registers

This series consists of two groups of church registers. The first two registers are preliminary records having been used from 1882-1895. The families in these two registers are recorded in four segments. A total of 220 families are recorded; however some families appear in more than one list. The content includes name of husband, wife and children with birth, marriage, baptism and death dates. The second group of registers are the permanent Bergthaler Church of Manitoba church registers begun around 1896 and consisting of nine volumes.
