Dedication of jeep for mission work in Japan

Dedication of vehicle for use by Mennonite missionaries in Japan, on the grounds of the Reedley Mennonite Brethren Church. A large crowd of people are gathered around the vehicle, listening to a speaker standing on the vehicle's roof platform. The speaker (on right) appears to be Rev. J. B. Toews, pastor of the Reedley Mennonite Brethren Church at that time. The other two men may be Harold Gaede and Harry Friesen, both missionaries to Japan. There are stacks of lumber (for use in construction of the new building) in the foreground, and the northwest facade of the old sanctuary is visible in the background. A slightly different photograph of this same event was published and described in the 15 April 1951 issue of The Christian Leader.

Sarah and Abraham M. Buhler

This photo is of Abraham Buhler sitting next to his wife [possibly a 1907 farewell photo or a 1909 wedding photo?]. The inscription on the back of the photo simply says, "Sarah and Abraham M. Buhler." If this is a farewell photo, the wife is Abraham's first wife, Agatha Balzer (b. 1851) who died in 1908. The couple left Saskatchewan for California in 1907 for health reasons. If this is a 1909 wedding photo, then this is Abraham's second wife, Sarah Klassen (1854-1919).
