Thirty-five Vietnamese land in Thailand

This is a photo of a small boat measuring 4 feet by 36 feet which landed on Thai shores on January 4, 1985, with 35 Vietnamese aboard. Posing with the boat are (left to right): MCCer Victor Neumann, himself a World War II refugee; boat children and the Vietnamese chief of the Songkhla Camp.

Two Hmong women in Thailand

This is a photo of two Hmong women sitting on short stools on the edge of a hard-packed alley, doing embroidery, in the Ban Nam Yao refugee camp in northeast Thailand. Traditional Hmong designs such as the snail (protection), heart (good health) and elephant's foot (wealth) are crafted into saleable items such as potholders and aprons for sale in North America.

This is a photo of Jake Buhler, MCC representative in Thailand, right, meeting with four Sinhalese Buddhist monks. The four are (left to right) Rev. Wilegoda Ariyadeva, Rev. Mandawala Pannawansa, Rev. Pituwala Dammakitti and Rev. Buddiyagama Chandaratana. The monks, visiting Thailand, are working in their native Sri Lanka to combat the growing violence there between the majority Sinhalese people and the minority Tamil people.
