Alpha L. and Jacob C. Buzzard Papers

Fragmented personal papers, including a number of Jacob C. Buzzard's teaching certificates and a message to his children written just prior to his death.  Also includes a letter to President Woodrow WIlson from the Illinois Mennonite Church Conference, dated May 30, 1919.  The letter, signed by Alpha L. Buzzard and John Nice, thanks Wilson for his consideration of the Mennonites' nonresistance and asks for exemption from all military training.  Other materials include documents from the Illinois Mennonite Church Conference and a certificate of baptism in German for Johanna Friedricke Krause.

Records include church council minutes, board of directors' minutes, annual reports, a photo directory, the dedication program, and other miscellaneous documents. Also included are several sound recordings of services in the late 1960s, sermons delivered at the North Leo Mennonite Church by George Brunk II in December 1968, and a performance by the Gospel Messengers quartet in October 1968.

These papers consist primarily of a memoir and photographs of Springer's service with the Friends Unit of the Red Cross from 1919 to 1920.  Also included are photographs and documentation of a car he built while serving in post World War I France, official documents pertaining to his service, family photographs depicting his parents (Valentine and Marie Esch Springer) and brothers, and miscellaneous material.

Amos S. Hostetler Memoir

This memoir, entitled "Like Jacob, I Waited Seven Years, or Faint Heart Did Win Fair Lady," recounts Hostetler's courtship of Ida (Yoder) Nussbaum.  Hostetler's daughter, Dora Miller, recorded Hostetler's memoir in writing, as Hostetler himself frequently recited it as a story.

Ervin Liechty Court Martial Transcript and Correspondence

Transcript of Liechty's court martial proceedings.  Liechty was charged with refusing to wear a military uniform and perform fatigue duty at Camp Greenleaf in May 1918.  Correspondence regarding the publication of the proceedings accompanies the transcript.

Letter from a Mennonite missionary serving the Pikangikum Indian community north of Red Lake, Ontario.  Describes the missionary showing lantern slides of the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ and playing records of testimonies, singing, and preaching "in the Indian language" to 40 Native Americans.

Reimer visited the MLA in 1990 on the way to the Mennonite World Conference in Winnipeg in 1990. He had a set of posters relating to Mennonite cemeteries in the Vistula Delta. The MLA photocopied many of his posters.

 

Also included is an advertising sheet about a "Hans Denk Fellowship" which Reimer was promoting.

Mennonite Church General Assembly Records

These records consist of the formally published material produced before and after the biennial meetings of the Mennonite Church General Assembly.  These include programs, reports, proceedings, delegate workbooks, onsite newspapers, and other supplemental publications.  Reports and proceedings found in the Mennonite Church General Assembly publications provide an overview of the state of the Mennonite Church, including its finances, and the issues of most concern to its leaders.  Later General Assemblies also featured youth conventions.

Other materials in these records include the minutes and some working files of assembly planning committees.  These are not available for all years of the General Assembly. 

The General Assemblies are designated by their location rather than their number.
