Ammon Sala Diary

A transcribed, typewritten copy of a diary kept by Ammon Sala, a Mennonite conscientious objector who was conscripted for military service in World War I. Sala left for Camp Lee on October 4, 1917 and was not released until December 1918. Sala's diary entries are very brief, describing one or two daily activities.

The diary was transcribed by Mark Moyer. The original diary remains in the possession of Helen Lenda.

Amos S. Hostetler Memoir

This memoir, entitled "Like Jacob, I Waited Seven Years, or Faint Heart Did Win Fair Lady," recounts Hostetler's courtship of Ida (Yoder) Nussbaum.  Hostetler's daughter, Dora Miller, recorded Hostetler's memoir in writing, as Hostetler himself frequently recited it as a story.

Documents pertaining to the process by which John Howard Yoder and his employer, then Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary (AMBS), navigated difficult personal and institutional relationships created by Yoder's sexual indiscretions and harrassment of women.  These materials were collected and created by then seminary president Marlin E. Miller.  Materials include documents pertaining to Yoder's ordination and church membership, contracts with AMBS, Yoder's papers on singleness, marriage, and sexuality and AMBS faculty members' responses, materials pertaining to Yoder's covenant group at AMBS, documents about his resignation, and correspondence with various parties during and after Yoder's period of employment at AMBS.

Andrew Brenneman Scrapbook and Correspondence

The scrapbook was made for Brenneman by members of the Central Mennonite Church, Elida Ohio, in the mid 1960s, when Brenneman was bed ridden due to illness at age 90.  Accompanying the scrapbook are scattered letters to, from, and about Brenneman, as well as an obituary and some newspaper clippings.

A small set of legal documents associated with Andrew J. Yoder's 1947 lawsuit against four Amish Mennonite bishops.  Yoder sued the bishops after they imposed an Amish 'mite' or boycott against him.  Yoder was awarded $5000 in damages and the court ordered the bishops to withdraw their boycott order.

Documents include the plaintiff's causes of action, a transcript of court proceedings, and the charge to the jury.
