Four men are holding a heavy chain outside in the winter cold. (Left to right) Neill Von Gunten, Raymond Duck, John Klassen, and Mike Green. [CMC Bulletin 1973, says his name is Alex Green]. holding up a chain use din pulpwood operations.
Note from Edith and Neill Von Guten: "This photo was taken at Bloodvein River – on the east shore of Lake Winnipeg -- when Neill and others from Mennonite Pioneer Mission / Native Ministries travelled to that First Nation for Abe Hoeppner’s ordination on February 4, 1973. We were living in Manigotagan then and Neill travelled to Bloodvein on the winter road to get there. John Klassen was also MPM/Native Ministries staff, living at Matheson Island. Raymond Duck and Mike Green were leaders in the Bloodvein congregation. Neill says that the chain was a symbolic way to signify the partnership between MPM/Native Ministries, the larger Conference of Mennonites in Canada constituency, and Bloodvein River, as well as the churches at Matheson Island and Manigotagan with Bloodvein. Menno Wiebe was the Executive Secretary of MPM/Native Ministries then."
