John H. Redekop, Gerald Vandezande, Abe Teichroeb

This is a photo of (l-r) Abe Teichroeb, John H. Redekop and Gerald Vandezande partaking in some refreshments and discussion during the seminar, "A Christian Response to Labour-Management Confrontation", held in Winnipeg January 27, 1976. A caption and this photo was used in the March 5, 1976 issue of the MB Herald, p. 15. The caption reads: Three major seminars on labour-management confrontation drew keenly interested audiences in Winkler, Steinbach and Winnipeg, January 27-29. Sponsored by the provincial MCC Peace and Social Concerns Committee, the seminars drew on the experience and insight of Dr. John Redekop, centre, and Gerald Vandezande, the former leader of the Christian Labour Association of Canada and presently executive director for the Committee for Justice and Liberty, a Toronto-based organization concerned with seeking Christian approaches to social and political issues. Dr. Redekop is a professor of political science at Wilfrid Laurier University. The seminars attempted to set forth clear biblical perspectives on the issues involved in the current unrest in management labour confrontation, and some of the opinions Christians might choose in response. Both speakers came through very clearly in calling for a rejection of the sub-Christian attitudes to seek new alternatives, set up new models of the kind that the Christian Labour Association--A Christian union--purposes, and become bolder in challenging the patterns which have become acceptable to so much of society. Over five hundred people attended the three seminars. At left is Abe Teichroeb of Winnipeg.
