Oyer], he applying for a fellowship or scholarship at Harvard for next year; Dean Carl Kreider had written]; John was 26, had done relief work in Germany and France under MCC, etc.; Goshen College was eying him to be a teacher of European history [as he indeed became]; likely could get through graduate work without being drafted; “... hope that you may be able to lend some good influence” for him.\ Reference to “the Yoder girl who worked for you” last summer....

Bender to Bender, February 20, 1951 [stationery of Harvard University Dean’s Office, he an Assistant Dean]: re letter on John Oyer, Wilbur had nothing to do with the Graduate School.\ That Nancy Yoder had done “a very fine job”; Wilbur would be traveling to Milwaukee in April and hoped to stop in Goshen; about coming west next summer...; had bought a house in Cambridge....
