Included are the Mennonite Board of Missions Executive Committee, Personnel Committee, Overseas Missions, Board of Directors, Program Committee, Relief Committee, Mission Committee, and the Eastern Mennonite Board of Missions and Charities.

Mennonite Board of Missions Dhamtari Christian Hospital Grant Files

Files pertaining to the financial administation of a grant received in 1990 from the United States Agency for International Development Office of the American Schools and Hospitals Abroad.  The grant was used to build an obstetrical wing for and make other physical plant improvements to the Dhamtari Christian Hospital in Dhamtari, India.

Organizational records documenting a Mennonite mission agency's efforts to gather information from and organize reunions for former mission and voluntary service workers.  These records contain not only administrative information regarding the mission board's strategy to engage former missionaries and service workers, but also include summaries of oral history interviews with and somewritten reminiscences of former missionaries and service workers about their experiences.

These records consist primarily of the minutes of meetings of the governing board for the Mennonite Board of Missions and supporting documents from those meetings.  Other records include the board's original by-laws and articles of incorporation, and subsequent regulations, policies, and certifications.  Also of note is a 1915 report considering "Sisters Aid Societies" to be organized by Clara Eby Steiner.  Steiner went on to implement and lead the Women's Missionary and Service Auxiliary.

Various reports and minutes from the annual meetings of the Mennonite Board of Missions beginning in 1907. Annual meeting programs, procedural manuals, meeting newsletters ("newssheets"), individual reports, and newspaper clippings are also included.

Reseachers should note that reports from 1996 and 1998 are not included, and that reports themselves do not all contain minutes. Minutes are not available for each year.

These records document the meetings of the primary governing board of the Mennonite Board of Missions.  The Board of Directors was instituted in 1971, replacing its predecessor, the Executive Committee.  Some of the minutes of Board of Director subcommittees and service committees, such as the Overseas Committee, Home Missions Committee, Communication Committee, Finance and Legal Committee, Personnel Committee, etc. may be found interfiled with these minutes.

Incoming and outgoing correspondence regarding both primarily home and voluntary service work and the placement of Mennonite conscientious objectors into service programs of partner agencies. These files also contain some information on overseas voluntary service work.  Correspondence is arranged alphabetically by author or subject.

Researchers should note the restrictions on files marked "confidential."  These files generally do not contain confidential information about the individual whose name is on the folder.  Rather, the files contain confidential information about voluntary service and mission workers supervised by the individual whose name is on the folder.
