Ephrata Cloister

The Martyrs Mirror was translated into German and printed by a non-Mennonite religious sect at the Ephrata Cloister in ephrata, Pennsylvania in 1769-1780. It was a tremendous folio volume of 1,482 pages in fine calf binding., an extraordinary achievement in those pioneer days in a frontier wilderness village. It was the largest book published in the American colonies before the Revolutionary War.

Ephrata Clothing Center

This photo is of three women sorting clothes in the Ephrata Clothing Center. On the left is Mrs. Olive Weaver of Terre Hill; in the foreground is Mrs. Anna Myer of Akron; and on the right is Mrs. Peter Rutt of Ephrata. Mrs. Rutt is the receiving and packing supervisor. The description on the backs says that the present building is to be replaced by a new clothing center warehouse.
