Hualien, Taiwan, missionary nurse Helen Willms (at right) is in the central market shopping for groceries. Several vendors and a young girl on a bycycle all look at her. Dated March 5, 1966. Taken by Frank H. Epp on his Asian Tour and possibly related to 2010-14.551 & 2010-14.547.
Negative also. Margaret Hamm and children stand in front of mission home with six Cross Lake children and Helen Willms. They began Sunday School Nov. 1956 when the Hamm family came to Cross Lake. See 14.4252 f., CM 7-16-6.
As in many Asian communities, supermarkets are the open street. The shelves are the street surface, boxes and baskets. Here missionary nurse Helen Willms is the prospective customer. She talks to a young woman who is selling items (vegetables?) in the middle of the street. Dated March 5, 1966. Taken on Frank H. Epp's Asian Tour.
Used in CM 11-9-3. Three Canadian missionary nurses: Lena Peters of Winnipegosis; Helen Wilms of Coaldale, Alberta; Sue Martens, Eyebrow, Sask., stand in the centre with 10 Christian nursing graduates of the Mennonite Christian Hospital. Two of the young women belonged to the Mennonite Church, 7 were from mountain tribes and 3 were Taiwanese.
Used in the CM 6-31-1. The south wing of the Mennonite missionary hospital (Mennonite Christian Hospital) at Hualien, Taiwan (Formosa) after suffering extensive damage in a disastrous typhoon. Part of the cement wall (fence) was down too (note on back of photo). Also used in the CM 6-31-5, with article by Helen Wilms, R.N., who likely wrote on the back of the photo: "The nurses' house (our house) being repaired."
