The aids memorial quilt was made by Ruth Thiessen with the help of a Mennonite Central Committee quilter in memory of a member of West Clearbrook Community Church who died of Aids. Each quilt section is made up of 9 panels and was shipped to the Vancouver office where it was incorporated into the 9-panel quilt. The quilt is made up of thousands of panels making hundreds of sections comprising the AIDS Memorial Quilt, originally stored in San Francisco, now in Atlanta. The Canadian portion is stored in Halifax.
