Forest Nursery sign

Sign reads: "British Columbia Forest Service: Forest Nursery." This is the sign to the Green Timbers Forestry Station, a tree nursery. Alternative Service workers reported here to the "manning depot" before being assigned to one of the forestry camps.

Robertson family

The Robertson family stands outside Hope Hall, a Plymouth Brethren church. Caption on back reads: "Ross Robertson, Mr. and Mrs. Robertson, their two younger children Elsie and ___ I forget the little boy's name." According to Burkholder, the family frequently hosted young men away from home due to the war, both conscientious objectors and military men.

Footbridge at an Alternative Service work camp

Caption on back reads: "The foot bridge between our houses and the office and cook house. This bridge was formerly the only trail thru this section of the Island. Even before their [sic] were any roads built - it is very old and a little shakey."
