A farewell party

Taken at a farewell party. During the 1920s many families emigrated from Russia, going mostly to Canada. Relatives, friends, and play-mates had to part. They did not know whether they would ever see each other again. The young people often organized a farewell event. It was a bitter-sweet experience. [HR 215]

A modern school

This photo shows a school in one of the Mennonite settlements in Russia prior to the Revolution of 1917.

Abraham Peters, Jakob Reimer

This is a photo of Abraham Peters (left), minister of the Mennonite Brethren church and son of the Margenau Elder Peters. Peters died in Canada, just like his father, at a very advanced age. Next to him is the evangelist and preacher Jakob Reimer. He published a booklet dealing with the Revelation according to St. John. [HR 144]

Abram and Helene Claassen and son Ernst Claassen

Abram Claassen and Mrs. Helene Marg, born Claassen from Prangenau in the Danzig area with their family. To the right on the photo their son Ernst. Abram Claassen died during the flight in 1945 and Ernst was shot by a low flying plane. [HR 36]

Abram A. Bergmann

This is a photo of Abram A. Bergmann (1853-1920). When still a child, he came to Russia with his parents. He was an estate owner and served many years on the Board of "Bethania" institute. [HR 98]
