Threshing Sadsalu

This photo is of a group of what appears to be women, surrounding a threshing station. Some of the women hold large wooden pools, which they are using to thresh the sadsalu. One is seated on the ground. There are several buildings in the background, behind a stone wall.

Alternative Service men working with the threshing operation

This photograph shows the men on the field at the threshing machine. Horses are also being used. It is probably the Azov Forstei. This was a post card sent to Abram Dick, Wiesenfeld on August 10, 1914. The note on the back is is wrriten in German by Herman Enns. The English translation : "Dear Friend, Since I have an opportunity to send some post cards cheaply I am taking advantage of the situation. I am well. I'm sending you a photo of our threshing operation. I am among the spectators. Greetings from your friend." This photograph is also on page 107 of the book Mennonite Alternative Serviice in Russia..
