Inscription on the reverse, written in Gothic German reads: "Hir kaud ihr mich Matilchen mit ihre beide Kinder sehen es ist von vorischen Jahr beim Neujahrs Baum ihr Mann hat uns abgenommen Ich war bei inen es ist eine Wege auf den Zug vahren war da 9 monate." Here you see me, Mitilda, and her two children, sitting in front of the New Year's tree, taken last year. Her husband took the photo. I was at there place. It is quite some distance by train. I was there for 9 months.

Thanks to Tatjana Giesbrecht (Berlin), granddaughter of Susanna (Redekop) Giesbrecht, the inscription has been identified as that of Susanna (Redekop) Giesbrecht. Susanna died in Semjonovko, Kazakhstan in 1973 and was in correspondence with Nik and Maria Redekop of St. Catharines, Ontario. Helen Funk, the donor of this photo, was the youngest daughter of Nik and Maria Redekop. -- AHR (7 Dec 2018)
