This is a photo of teacher A.Toews and students at the school in Rueckenau, Molotschna, in 1912. Two students are identified: H.J. Reimer at age 12 (left end, 1st row) and and Aganetha Hildebrand (to the right of the teacher).

Students at Halbstadt Girls School

This is a photo of students from the school for girls at Halbstadt. Sitting at the right in the white blouse is Margarethe Kroeker, now Winnipeg. At the bottom to the right is Mariechen Dyck who was later an instructress in the High School; she came to Paraguay where she, like all women, had to work very hard. Others had a similar fate. This is a photo of the central school in Davlekanovo, Ufa, 1919. After the Czar had been deposed, boys and girls could attend the same school. Formerly this had not been permitted. The teachers are (left to right): Abram Sudermann, Franz Thiessen, Julius Ratz and Carl Friedrichsen. In the row behind the teachers standing between Sudermann and Thiessen is Jakob Unger. [HR 199]

Sunday School Class in Russia

This photograph shows a large group of boys and girls, about 6 rows, with the 4 male and 5 female teachers in the back. The photograph is taken in front of the doors to the brick building. It is identified on the reverse as being a Sunday School in Neuendorf, but the location is probably incorrect.

Teacher Heinrich J. Dueck with students

This photo shows Heinrich Johann Dueck (1862-1922) with a group of over 100 students. Dueck was born 22 Jan. 1862 in Halbstadt and died 1 August 1922 in Klippenfeld. He was a teacher in Kleefeld, Gnadental and Klippenfeld villages in Molotschna. His wife was Susanna (Wiens) Dueck was born in Ebenfeld, South Russia in 1865 and died in Kasachstan in 1941.
