An article in Der Bote June 8, 1983 p. 1-2 states he died on January 22, 1943 according to a Red Cross report. The 1943 date provided by the Red Cross was later to be found to be incorrect, see Hermann Heidebrecht "Auf dem Gipfel des Lebens : das Leben des Ältesten Jakob Rempel ; vom Stallknecht zum Professor, vom Träumer zum Märtyrer," p. 270.
