History

The Pleasant Point congregation began began services in 1924 and formally organized in 1925. The group was originally part of the Nordheimer church group which included Dundurn, Hanley and Elbow, all under the guidance of one bishop. Johann J. Klassen is considered the founding leader of the group. Though the congregation was allowed use of their current church building in 1928 by the Moravians, the purchase was not actually completed until 1950. Major renovations were done in 1959. The meeting house is about 15 km south of Clavet, Saskatchewan and equally north of Dundurn, Saskatchewan. The last bishop Gerhard Warkentin retired in 1972, and the subsequently the Nordheimer church group dissolved by 1975, after which Pleasant Point Mennonite Church emerged as an independent congregation (1976).
