Biographical history

Noah Oyer (1891-1931) was a Mennonite educator and pastor.  He was the head of the Bible department and the dean at Hesston College in 1922-23.  He became the dean and the head of the Bible department at Goshen College in 1924.  He served as the chairman of the General Sunday School Committee for eight years.

 

1891 - Born on April 11, in Metamora, Illinois to Mary Smith and John P. Oyer.  Joined the Metamora congregation of the Amish Mennonite Church

1912 - Entered Hesston College and Bible School

1916 - Married Siddie King on August 9; together they had 3 children

1916-24  - Member of the Mennonite Board of Education

1919 - Graduated from Hesston College

1922  - Received a Th.B. from Princeton Theological seminary; attended Franklin and Marshall College

1922-23  - Head of the Bible department at Hesston College

1923-24 - Dean of Hesston College

1923  - Ordained as a Mennonite minister on September 30, in Hesston Kansas

1924 - Head of Bible Department and dean at Goshen College

1923-31 - Chairman of the General Sunday School Committee of the Mennonite Church

1931 - Died on February 25, of typhoid fever at age 39 in Goshen, Indiana
