Scope and content
No. 8 in a set of numbered photos from the 6th Mennonite World Conference held in 1957 in Karlsruhe, Germany. Used in CM 5-34-4. Five of the deaconesses are shown at the Thomashof in Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany, a Mennonite centre of the influential South German Mennonite conference. C. J. Rempel calls the Thomashof, "the seat of the German Mennonites". A 2nd fragmented photo may be the building which served as an old people's home, vacation centre and headquarters for deaconess work of the Badischer Verband which Rempel mentions in his explanation for this photo. See also, "Thomashof" in the Global Anabaptist Mennonite Encyclopedia Online. See 2010-14.492 and 2010-14.493 for Nos. 9 and 10 in this series.
They are all dressed alike in apron-type dresses and a bonnet head covering.
