This photo is of the Sanatorium at Ninette, Manitoba. It was built in 1910 with Dr. David A. Stewart the Medical Superintendent starting in 1910. The last 12 patients (Tuberculosis) remained and were sent to chronic care hospitals in December 1972. In 1973 the facility was turned into the Pelican Lake training Centre for Mentally retarded. The first 15 residents came from Portage la Prairie.. This photo was part of a trip that Betty Newfeld went on and served as the basis for her collection of stories "Exploring Manitoba Highways and Byways". See volume 5561 file 1
